Márcio is a travel and music journalist and writer based in São Paulo, Brazil. He can’t drive, considers himself dyslexic and feels he lived his 'golden era' at the age of 12 when in the same year he won a literature prize, a series of swimming competitions and was first published in a newspaper.
During the carnival in 2007 following the advice of a New York Maracatu group he visited Tabajara, a small Village near Recife on the Brazilian northeast region. The intensity of the percussion instruments of Maracatu do Baque Solto (a unique Brazilian folklore rhythm that mixes African, native American and European influences in a marvellous and colourful way) drove him into a 'long mantra' that has never left. |
